Whos ready for 2015? Well, we are! 

With The Stitchin' Post celebrating its 40th year in business, we decided to invite many of our favorite instructors to give workshops.

Right now on our website, workshop descriptions, costs, and registration procedures are available to view. On July 28th at 10am, we will begin accepting registrations on-line at www.stitchinpost.com, on paper (in person or by mail), and by telephone. We will process all registrations in the order they come in.

The students have come a long way in the six-session class, starting with the rail fence block in class one to having a lap size or larger quilt together in class six.

 

A new session begins on Tuesday evenings, starting March 25th. 

Besides beginners we also welcome those of you wanting a refresher on basic instructional techniques

or possibly you just want to make a sampler quilt.

Absolutely Beginning Quilting

Have you wanted to make a quilt, but don’t know where to begin? This class is for those with little or no quilting experience. Learn how to rotary cut fabric and piece together basic quilt blocks, while making a sampler-style quilt. Lawry will take you start-to-finish through your choice of a 6-, 9-, or 12-block sampler.
Note: Attendance to first class is mandatory.

Check out the quilt I just finished for the Quilted In Honor “Stars Over Sisters” challenge!

Entry information following the block turtuioial.

 

I updated one of our patterns by making one change and surprise…a whole new quilt.  You can make the same quilt with this little update. If you already own the “Phoebe” quilt pattern just follow these easy steps. Or you may purchase “Phoebe” with the update included.

Phoebe Quilt Pattern

Replace step #1 & #2 in the Phoebe pattern with the Sawtooth Star blocks. You will need 8 blocks to complete the quilt. Directions are for one block:

 

 

Cutting Information:

Star Background - White

4 – 2 ½” x 2 ½” squares  (8 blocks 32 squares)

4 – 2 ½” x 4 ½” rectangles  (8 blocks 32 rectangles)

 

Star – Blue

8 – 2 ½” x 2 ½” squares  (8 blocks 64 squares)

1 – 4 ½” x 4 ½” square  (8 blocks 8 squares)

 

 

Constucting the block:

Star points:

Lay a 2 ½” x 2 ½” blue square right sides together on the left side of  a 2 ½” x 4 ½” white rectangle. 

Sew diagonally from the upper left corner to the bottom right corner of the blue square.

Trim away the excess fabric leaving a ¼” seam allowance.  Press.

 

Repeat on the other side of the 2 ½” x 4 ½” white rectangle.  This time sew from the upper left corner down to the lower left corner.  Trim and press.  Make 4 of these.

 

 

 

Lay out the star block.  Sew the rows together first and then sew row #1  to #2 and then #3. Press

Block will measure 8 ½” x 8 ½”

 

 

 

 

I made all my stars the same blue but mixed up the white backgrounds.

My Tula100 quilt is at the quilters getting quilted. Next month We’ll post the completed quilt!

These rules apply to the 2014 Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show Quilted In Honor  “Stars Over Sisters” Challenge:

1. Quilts must be at least 36”x 36” and no larger than 80” x 80”
2. 60% of the fabric on the top of the quilt must be from Island Batik’s Quilted In Honor Collection, available from The Stitchin Post. Shop in store or online. 
3. You can help support the additional Challenge Sponsors by using these products: Aurifil thread, Pellon batting, OESD embroidery designs, Giving Quilt Pattern by Carol Doak & Sharon Pederson at PatternSpot.com.
4. There is no limit to the number of entries per person.
5. QUILT REGISTRATION:  Go to www.SistersOutdoorQuiltShow, Click on the QUILT ENTRY tab and follow the instructions for E-Registration.  An original registration form is required for each quilt.  This form will serve as a Quilt Show Tag and bust be completed entirely.  The “Quilt Story” section of the registration form is for interesting information about your quit and is limited to 200 words.
6. A label must be attached to the back of the quilt with the following info: Title of quilt, name and address of maker, size of quilt. 
7. Quilts will be judged by a committee of three people on design, use of color, construction, and interpretation of the theme, “Stars Over Sisters.”
8. All accepted quilts will be eligible for prizes, which will be awarded on July 12 at the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show.
9. Finished Quilts must arrive at The Stitchin Post by May 31, 2014.  No Exceptions!

PLEASE NOTE:  You may designate to donate your entered quilt to Operation Homefront, to benefit Central Oregon service men and women and their families.

Absolutely Beginning Quilting

If you have ever wanted to learn how to quilt, this is the class for you! Absolutely Beginning Quilting starts from step one (turning on your machine) and takes you all the way through to "stitchin' in the ditch" and binding!

You can make it "skinny" a-la a table runner or wall hanging.

 You will learn 12 different traditional quilt blocks. But you don't have to use them all.

But look at how color and interpretation make them unique and fresh!

Or you can add some extra for that Queen/King sized bed quilt...Phew!

We offer this beginner class every fall and spring. It is taught by the "Ultra" patient Lawry...after all she was a Kindergarden teacher.

NEW Parson Gray

We are excited to let you know that we just received the new David Butler fabric, Parson Gray collection Seven Wonders. It is available in the store and on our website now. This collection has wonderful rich tones countered with cool silvers and blues that help evoke the feeling of nature. The designs in the collection are hand-drawn by David in a folk modern esthetic using seven classic elements of nature.

We are looking forward to making the Luna Quilt (Jenanveve Pattern Booklet) out of this collection and hope that you find the perfect project for it too. Think beyond the quilt...maybe a man's vest or tie?

Quilter's Affair Day 2

So, for those of you who have not had the pleasure of joining us for Quilter's Affair, we take over Sisters High School. We hold classes, workshops and lectures there.

This is the commons area set up for lunch.

We even set up a mini-Stitchin Post for students in need of sewing and quilting items.

Who left the barn door open?

This cute fella wandered into the Stitchin' Post today...

Why it's David Taylor and a special barnyard friend!  You may have seen this adorable quilt in "The Art of Quilts Postcard Collection~Animals".  This is a fun collection of 30postcards featuring animal quilts from various quilt artists.  It would make the perfect gift in any quilter's Easter basket!  (There is also a postcard collection of Nature Quilts, that are truly beautiful.) 

What I found amazing with this partiular quilt was the detail of the machine quilting, especially on the goat.  The quilting is so fine, it gives the goat very realistic looking hair texture.
