“Gold Rush” seems like the perfect color to feature for October. It is the color of celebration, wedding rings, golden anniversary, etc. And this time of years the woods are full of yellow gold leaves to deep golden rust. The words yarrow, curry, straw, and saffron are all related to some form of yellow gold. It is a magical time for color.
Our fabric selections explore patterning and texture at its best:
FreeSpirit: Floral Waterfall by Shannon Newlin (PWSN005.8041) is a beautiful pairing of color on the deep golden background.
Andover: Diving Board by Alison Glass (A6637Y) is a typical Alison design with magical botanical shapes in a deeper tone.
Moda: Fragile by Zen Chic (1632 18 gold and 1632 11 white) reminds me of a sanded down painted surface.
FreeSpirit: Loominous by Anna Maria Horner (WOAH 005 straw) is a soft woven plaid
Moda: Fragile by Zen Chic (1634 11 white) deconstructed alphabet in black and gold
Robert Kaufman: Panache by Rebecca Bryan (ARY 17033 294 yarrow) tiny playful geometric shapes are scattered across the deep gold fabric
Briditte Heitland of Zen Chic has a beautiful message for all of us printed on the selvage of her Fragile collection: “Trust dreams, trust your heart, and trust your story!"
I had in mind to play with improvisional log cabin blocks this month and Madison Square fits the bill.
When I use this technique log cabin I free-cut the strips to fit, as I add them around the center units. I do not use a ruler, but trim and angle shapes as I work. I do plan the end size for the block, and just keep adding strips in a variety of widths until I reach that number. I find that I feel more and more creative, as I go and start seeing some results.
Blacks and greys are creeping into the mix, and some of the colors in Shannon Newlin’s print may make an appearance. As blocks are created they will be posted……stay tuned!
Jean
P.S.
I could not resist making a pincushion with the small scraps from the first block. I would like to give it away to the first person that sends us a photo of a project started from our “Gold Rush collection.”
Beautiful log cabin blocks and pin cushion!
Gold rush prints are amazing.
