A Sense of Place
Color is what I see first in a quilt and I think most of us are drawn to color. On a recent trip to Greece and Turkey, I was very taken with the spice market, the variety of colors and textures. When I got home I just had to make this quilt "Spice Box". I really put thought into selecting fabric that not only represented color but also texture.
Notice the combination of natural colored linens, batiks, solids and contemporary prints---- they all relate to creating visual texture.
For me the icing on the cake is the final quilting. I took every opportunity I could to quilt organic shapes on the surface.
